Tianjin Porcelain House

Tianjin Porcelain House, also known as the "China House" or Yuebao House, is located on Chifeng Street in Heping District, the Tianjin Commercial Center. Opened on 2nd, Sep, 2007, it covers an area of 3,000 square meters, with a history of over 100 years. This old French-style building was originally inhabited by a central finance minister in the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and later served as a bank after the founding of New China in 1949. It was then deserted for a decade as the bank moved out, until someone came up with the idea of transforming it into a porcelain museum.

What if a western-style mansion decorated with Chinese porcelains which are hundreds and thousand of years old? Nevertheless, what beyond anyone's wildest imagination is that the Porcelain House is decorated with about 400 million pieces of ancient Chinese ceramic chips and over 13,000 ancient Chinese porcelain vases, plates and bowls, how amazing!

In September, 2002, the porcelain collector Zhang Lianzhi, president of Yueweixian Group, spent 1 million yuan (US$125,000) bought the house. The project spent him over 20 years collecting materials (worth of 2 billion RMB) and five years completing the decoration. The Porcelain House is a fascinating blend of Chinese classical craft and Western architecture, displaying the designer's spirit and intricate elaboration. The house is covered with various porcelain pieces such as plates, vases and figurines; about 80 percent of them are broken or damaged antiques. However, the flaw of these pieces had been carefully concealed when being pasted on the wall, bestowing the damaged porcelain a new life. Circling the house is a vivid flying dragon forms the character "CHINA." This personal creation of Zhang Lianzhi is 768 meters in length and 0.8 meters in width.
