Mausoleum of Emperor Shun, standing on the mountain, is a key cultural relic under state-level protection and one of the ten most famous cultural heritage sites in Hunan Province. The mausoleum was originally built in
Xia Dynasty (about
four thousand years ago) and it is the earlist recorded tomb of the Chinese people's ancestors. Historically, the mausoleum was a place for emperors and kings from various periods in ancient
China to pay their respects to the Emperor Shun, one of the five earliest emperors of
China. Since 2,000, cultural tourist festivals and sacrificial ceremonies have been held every year and attract a great many tourists.
