Baligou Valley, or Baligou Scenic Area, means Eight-Mile Valley which is located in Shangbali Town,
Huixian County, Xinxiang City, Henan Province. Lying in the south of Taihang Mountain which is the junction of Henan and Shanxi, it is only 120 kilometers away from Zhengzhou, 160 kilometers away from Luoyang, 130 kilometers away from Kaifeng and140 kilometers away from Shaolin Temple.
What to see?
Baligou Scenic Area is a national 5-A scenic area with a total area of 40 square kilometers. The forest coverage of the scenic area is over ninety percent. In addition to the peerless waterfalls of Northern China and spectacular mountain scenery, it is also a natural reserve for the macaques.
Yixiantian Scenic Spot
Yixiantian, means one-line of the sky, is located in the northeast of the parking lot of Yangzhoudi in Baligou Scenic Area. Situated at the crack of the two peaks,it is the only path that the former villagers used it to walk between the Upper Baligou Village and the Lower Baligou Village in ancient times. Circling between the cliffs, it is called "Dragon Plate Ladder". Here the terrain is dangerous, the cliffs on both sides are like pressure, and the momentum is compelling.
Hongshihe Scenic Spot
Hoshihe means "Red Rock River'. It is the birthplace of the Taihang Tianhe Waterfall. Because it is located on the Taihang Mountain over 1,100 meters above sea level, it is also called "Tianhe", meaning the River in the Sky. The stones in the riverbed are rare red slate, hence the name "Red Rock River". There are many scenries in the scenic spot among which Hongshi River is the most famous. There is Qinglong Cave next to the river. The spring water in the cave is clear and sweet. There is also Bali Village, where you can see a farmer’s century-old home and experience the natural wildness of the home in the dense mountain jungle village.
Baligou Waterfall, also called Tianhe Waterfall or Longkou Waterfall, is the most largest waterfall in Taihang Mountainous.The Baligou Waterfall originates from the Hongshi River at an altitude of 1,500 meters. It has a drop of 170 meters waterfall from the Shanxi Province. The maximum width is more than 20 meters and the minimum is 5 meters. The river flows through the deep ditch of this area and flows straight down, forming a trend of sloping mountains and seas, falling straight and spurting up the water column and the waves that are several meters high.
Yuhuang Peak, also known as the Jade Emperor Peak, over 1500 meters above sea level, is the main peak of the Taihang Mountain. Here, you can get a view of the sunrise, the sea of clouds, the landscape of Yellow River...
Yuhuang Temple
Yuhuang Temple, known as the Jade Emperor Temple,is located directly above the Nuwa Valley, nestled in the yellowish cliff where It is 66 meters deep, 8 meters high and 13 meters wide. the temple consists of nine parts: the guardian station, the Lingbi House, the Wenyuan Pavilion, the ancestral hall, the Kong Shengtang, the emperor statue, the Buddha temple, the Wangmu Temple. Here, you can see some ancient architectures and learn more about Taoist culture.
Three Pools Scenic Spot
It is located in the river ditch between the two peaks at the mouth of Shimengou Valley. It is known as
Bailong pool, Huanglong pool and Heilong Pool. The three pools are connected each with several acres. Among them, the Heilong pool is the largest, which is twilight and unfathomable. An it is more than 14 miles long and 5-6 meters wide. It is unfathomable and the water is twilight, so it is called Heilong Pool, meaning Black Dragon Pool. I heard that there is always a black woman who goes into the water, so it is also called the black woman pool.
Shimen Lake
It is also Shimen Reservoir which is named after it is located in Shimengou Valley. Built in 1973, the Shimen Reservoir is 90 meters high, with a base width of 80 meters, a dam crest width of 5.5 meters and a dam length of 291 meters. It is made from local materials and is made of red stone. During the wet season, the water surface is more than 10 miles, and the water is microwaved and deep in the thousand feet.
