Baxijia Ancient Village


Baxijia Ancient Village is located on the side of Baima Lake nearby Wanglang National Nature Reserve. With saveral thousands years history, Baxijia Ancient Village is one of the olddest villages in the area of Baima. 

Entering the village, you will see Baima Ethnic people, lots of local villagers' beautiful houses. Meet local villagers and chat with them, you will learn more about the cultureand history of Baima Ethnic Minority. 

Baima Nationality  is a subgroup of Tibetans living in the southeast of Gansu province and the northwest of Sichuan province of China, especially in Pingwu County, Jiuzhaigou County of Sichuan and Wen County of Gansu. In religion, they still keep ancient nature worship and totem worship, which practices were later influenced by the prehistorical Tibetan religion of Bon, and in some degree they also believe Buddhism and Daoism, but there are no temples or lamas (monks).[1][2] To many of the Baima, the Mountain God is the highest god. The most important religious event for them is Caogai (曹蓋, which means domino in Baima language) dance.

Made of wooden, all houses in the village are well-preserved as the contstruction style of the Baima Nationality. 


Travel Tips

How to get there: There are regular direct buses from Mianyang Central Bus Station and Pingzheng Bus Station to Pingwu County and it takes 3.5-4 hours. Upon arrival at Pingwu, there are two ways to the nature reserve:
1. Transfer to another bus to Baima, where take a taxi to reach;
2. At Pingwu, it is a good idea to rent a car to the natural reserve directly.
(Note: Buses from Mianyang to Pingwu are scheduled from 06:20 to 17:00 every half an hour.)

Best time to go: All the year round (rainfall is dense during May and July)
