Rock Tripe, also known as Umbilicaria esculenta, is named Stone Ear(石耳 or 岩耳) by local
Zhangjiajie people, It is a lichen of the genus Umbilicaria that grows on rocks in the area of
Zhangjiajie City. It is edible when properly prepared and has been used as a food source and medicine.The species name is based on the arlier basionym Gyrophora esculenta.
