Liriodendron 鹅掌楸
Liriodendron, or Liriodendron Chinese, 鹅掌楸( é zhǎng qiū), is China's unique rare plants. It is a large deciduous tree with a height of 40 meters and a breast diameter of more than 1 meter. The branches are gray or taupe. The shape of the leaves is like a stable. The top of the blade is flat, like the hem of a stable; the sides of the blade are smooth or slightly curved, like the two sides of the stable; the sides of the blade protrude outward, as if the two sleeves of the stable . Therefore, the Liriodendron is also called Ma Yumu. Flowers solitary branches, 9 perianth segments, 3 segments of calyx, green, 2-flowered petal yellow-green, base with yellow stripes, shaped like tulips. Therefore, its English name is "Chinese Tulip Tree", translated into Chinese is "Chinese tulip tree".
It grows fast, is drought tolerant, and is extremely resistant to pests and diseases. The flowers are large and beautiful, and the autumn leaves are golden in color. They are like yellow horses. They are precious street trees and garden ornamental trees. They can be quickly shaded after planting. It is also a good wood for building and making furniture. It mainly grows south of the Yangtze River basin. Indications of rheumatism, cold, cough and other diseases.
Liriodendron trees grow in the Wuling mountainous area of
Zhangjiajie City, Hunan Province. The resources of wild and scattered old trees are abundant, especially in the Badagong Mountain of
Sangzhi County.
This Liriodendron Tree has been growing over 300 years in the Xiahe of Nanmuping Village, Bamaoxi Township,
Sangzhi County. The tree is named "King Liriodendron" with its height 28 meters, the breast diameter 160 cm. And the canopy covers an area of 64 square meters (formerly 252 square meters, which is then frozen and crushed). The trunk of the tree is straight and complete, and the growth is very strong. Chinese and foreign forest scientists have visited this place many times, and believe that it is the largest chestnut scorpion found in
China.
