Chestnut tree, a woody plant. belongs to the family Ranunculaceae, is widely distributed in various scenic spots in Zhangjiajie. Chestnut trees are perennial deciduous trees, generally 3 to 5 meters to 10 meters high.
 

The chestnut tree blooms in late spring and early summer, It grows in summer, and is strong in autumn. Chestnut mainly contains starch, sugar and so on. The chestnut fruit is spherical, the outer shell is thorny, and the chestnuts inside are smooth and purple, so the farmer has the riddle of "the mother wears a thousand-pin shirt and wears a purple robe."

After the chestnut matures, the outer shell opens naturally and the chestnuts fall off with the wind. After the "Bailu" ， one of he fifteenth solar terms in the twenty-four solar terms that the time is between September 7-9, the annual calendar. the chestnuts are matured in the mountains of Zhangjiajie,  and the chestnut balls of the trees are all open with a smile.

When the autumn wind blows, the chestnuts fall off with the wind and roll into the ravine or low. At the same time, if you are lucky, you can pick up a nest of chestnuts, sometimes you can get a few pounds a day.
